Moderator Training for Logical Framework Approach and Goal-Oriented Project Planning

We will offer an intensive training for facilitators of participative planning workshops in September 2007. The underlying method used will be Logical Framework Approach or GOPP (Goal-Oriented Project Planning), a core method for Project Cycle Management.

The course is conducted by Erik Kijne and Frank Little who are experienced workshop moderators and have offered this training for the past fifteen years. The course is offered in Brussels, Belgium and other locations around the world.

Programme overview

Day
What we will do
After which you have:
Monday
  • A walk through the entire planning process individually or in pairs using detailed instructions on a case to learn the planning procedure used in GOPP/LFA.
  • Application of this planning procedure with groups. A case is introduced and the initial steps of working with groups in this kind of participatory method are taken.
  • understanding of the steps involved in GOPP/LFA planning

  • overview of the issues associated with participative planning in groups

Tuesday
  • Taking turns to facilitate a workshop using the case (other participants play a role in the workshop while each person acts in turn as facilitator): first stage of the workshop is situational analysis (problem identification and analysis).
  • practice in the basic skills of active listening, parotting, summarising, structuring discussion
  • feedback on your own personal style of facilitation
Wednesday
  • Further practice with problem analysis and transformation of problems into objectives and choice of the project goals (acceptable to all parties).
  • practice in the basic skills of finding common ground
  • further feedback on personal style of facilitation
Thursday
  • Building up of the "logical framework", the planning matrix in which the entire project is described. The steps followed are:
  • identification of assumptions,

  • analysis of risks of failure of the assumptions,

  • generation of activities for each objective,

  • fixing of indicators, and

  • scheduling of deadlines.

 

  • knowledge of the detailed structure of a logical framework plan
  • practice in leading groups through the logical framework planning procedure
  • personal feedback
Friday
  • The role of the facilitator, preparation for the job, personal plans for next steps.
  • reflection on your own next steps to gain confidence in using the method
